Welcome to First African Baptist Church! In service for the Master since 1773, we are located in the center of historic downtown Savannah, our visionary pastor is Rev Thurmond Neil Tillman, preacher/teacher extraordinaire. First African Baptist is listed on the historic map of Savannah and is toured by people near and far. We exist to worship God in spirit and in truth and invite all to worship with us!

“Seeking God. Shaping lives. Serving the world” is our mission!
The mission of First African Baptist Church has not changed since its inception—winning souls to Christ and equipping believers for service!

Excellence in Kingdom Building” is our motto. We seek to strengthen and mature Christians as is stated in Ephesians 4:10-11, “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ”. Our aim is to follow the Great Commission as stated in Matthew 18:19-20a, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

OurVision

Our vision is to be an influential witness for Christ in our community, our city, our state, and our world. As stated in Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth”. Through member involvement in the many ministries of the church, as we practice intentional outreach, evangelism, and Christian living, we witness the love of Christ that draws others to an intimate relationship with the Savior.

Values

We are a loving and caring congregation that believes in salvation through Jesus Christ, believers’ baptism, developing a growing relationship with God, church membership and membership involvement.

As we progressively strive toward making First African Church the beacon God has called her to be, we seek God’s power and guidance. We stand firmly on Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” We trust God.
